Detoxing my Life

Senior year I came to the realization of how important being healthy actually was. It created a better aspect for all realms of life whether it was mental health or physical health. The media today has distorted the idea of a perfect body. Let me tell you, the perfect body is healthy. It does not matter what size or shape your body is. It does not matter about the number on the scale. The more important number is the blood pressure monitor or the number you got on that test because you could finally study without being exhausted or worrying about if you were going to look good in that outfit tomorrow. Realizing this, I changed my lifestyle. I started exercising, eating right, and detoxing. Detox water changed my life. The most common detox water was lemon and mint because it had the best results. The responsibility of the lemon was to boost my immune system, aid in my digestion, and clear my skin. The mint took care of the weight loss part and increased the amount of fat that was being consumed. I stuck with the water for about two months and was feeling great. I did not keep track of my weight loss but it was significant. Not only did I notice my weight change but I noticed my mental health was also improved. I was more confident which made me more willing to participate in life. One of the big things I noticed, was that I was not tired all of the time. The detox and healthy eating provided me the correct nutrients to get through myday without constantly feeling like I needed a nap. But, just like any weight loss journey, there are low points. I reached mine in the summer and I found myself slowly eating junk food and no longer doing my detoxes. The junk food I was eating made me feel heavier than I actually was and just plain disgusting all around. Going into college was no help. When they say the "Freshmen 15" is real, they are not kidding. I knew the late night Wawa runs had to stop. But, it was just so difficult to eat healthy while on a college budget. It was not until around Thanksgiving when my doctor informed me that I had fatty liver. This meant I gained weight too quickly and it was hurting my liver. I immediately set into reality. I knew I had to get healthier. My first goal was to get healthy. I learned to never set a goal weight in the beginning. I think the first important step is to get healthier. You need to figure out what things work for you and what do not. By eating healthier the weight loss will come. I cut out a lot of carbs including bread and pasta. I included a few cheat days but, in my mind what is the fun of getting healthier without a cheat day here and there. With that being said, I have lost a total of 6 pounds just by being healthier. I restarted my detox today and I am excited to see how it goes. As of right now, I have no goal weight. I want to keep going until I feel the most comfortable with myself. Hopefully turning this into a lifestyle later on. But, for anyone looking for healthy lifestyle changes, I highly recommend detox water with lemon and mint. If you try the detox, I would love to know how it goes. I will be sure to keep everyone updated on my journey. -Kayleigh
